Research and Development

We are investing heavily in advanced research and development to accelerate our innovation endeavour. In 2015, we established the Nadia Godres, Animal Research and Development Center in Nashik, Maharashtra, India's unique Private Livestock Research Center. We emphasise skills and development of the workforce and improve the facility. We are able to produce cost-efficient solutions that greatly improve animal productivity. Our animal feed business is one of the largest organized players in the Indian compound feed market, with annual sales of cattle, poultry, aquatic feed and specialty feeds exceeding 1 million tons.

Our team worked closely with Indian farmers to develop oil palm plantations for smallholders of over 61,700 hectares, bridging the supply and demand of cooking oil. There are plantations in Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. In 2015, we also started operating a palm oil plant in Mizoram. This is one of the largest private sector investments in the country. The Crop Conservation Business meets the niche needs of producers through innovative pesticide products. We have a high market share in plant growth promoters, soil conditioners and cotton herbicides. Our portfolio offers a variety of products that cover the entire crop life cycle. With over 6,000 distributors, a strong distribution channel across India helps to reach a wide range across the country.

Our History

Godrej Agrovet has been in the industry for 40 years. Our story began as part of the Swadeshi movement in India. This was the original Make in India movement.

1897	Key to success	Ardeshir Godrej founded a rock company after some ventures failed. For him, the key to success was lock.
1918	World's first vegetable oil soap	We released Chabi, the world's first soap made without using animal fat. Swadeshi and Ahimsa scores.
1919	It's all in a name	Immediately after that, another soap, Godrej No. 2, was released.
1921	Supporting India's freedom movement	An avid nationalist, Ardeshir Godrej donated 3 rupees to Tilak Swaraj fund, the biggest single contribution at the time.
1922	A special letter from Gandhi	One of our most important moments: Mahatma Gandhi wrote a letter to those who seek favor, he said: I take great care of my brother Godley, so Im very sorry if your company could harm him in any way. Can't give you my blessing
1938	Securing futures	The Public Provident Fund was introduced in Godley, 14 years before the Indian government.
1943	Pirojshanagar	The Bombay government at the time auctioned from the village of Vikhroli to Pilojisha Godley. Over the years, Bikflori has transformed into a green industrial city that is friendly to people and the environment.
1944	Safest safes	A catastrophic explosion at the Bombay dock resulted in a horrific genocide. Godrej's vault is one of the few that survived the explosion.
1951	Ballot boxes for free India's first elections	We were excited to produce 1.7 million ballot boxes for India's first step as a democracy. K.R. Thanawalla remembers, I know this best. There were about 22,000 ballot boxes per day. We are from quarter departing at 7 o'clock, it's rarely late at night.
1974	Godrej Trusts	Soonabai Pirojsha Godrej Foundation was founded. Today, about 23% of the interest of group promoters is held in trusts that invest in the environment and health and education.

2008	India's mission to the Moon	India becomes the fifth country to deploy an unmanned mission to the moon with Chandrayaan-1. We are proud of the engineering tha we have contributed to the construction of the mission's launch vehicle and lunar orbiter.
